Combine 20 years of experience in the fitness industry with the latest in high-tech running shoes and the result is Runner’s Gate, a one-of-a-kind running store now open in Lakeville Crossing at 160th Street and Cedar Avenue in Lakeville.

Runner’s Gate is the South Metro’s premier source for running shoes, apparel and accessories for athletes of all ages and abilities, from beginning runners to elite racers and from high school athletes to weekend walkers.

Runner's Gate is the creation of owner Phil Hoffland, who has worked in the fitness industry for more than 20 years.

Hoffland, who holds a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, served as athletic director at Flagship Athletic Club in Eden Prairie before joining Northwest Athletic Club as general manager. He was executive director of the Shoreview Community Center and later served as training specialist for Life Time Fitness.

An avid runner, Hoffland has participated in road races and marathons across the country, including the Twin Cities Marathon, Boston Marathon, Naples Daily News Half Marathon in Naples, Fla., Disney Marathon and Honolulu Marathon. He also has served as a volunteer running coach for the local Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

Hoffland combined his health and fitness background with his love of running to create a running store focused on the runner. “Running can be a lifelong activity,” Hoffland said. “Having the right shoe can make all the difference. At Runner’s Gate, we’ll help determine the best type of shoe for you based on the shape of your foot, your stride, the mileage you run, and more. Unlike the sports super stores, we get to know our customers. We help you find the right shoe and join you in celebrating the joy of running.”
